Will skateboarding affect my track performance in a negative way?

  • I started skateboarding for about 3 weeks and i noticed since i push off on my right foot that it feels stronger would this affect my running 100/200 meter dashes when the track season starts? by the way it doesnt hurt to run or anything

  • push with both legs then gosh

by the way mary & mike i warm up by popping a few ollies

  • okay i skateboad iv been skateboarding for 5 years( im finally sponsord) and before i started i couldnt run worth crap i kept getting cramps and stuff, then i went to skateboarding then i ran faster because you are in the motion of running and you are pushing down when you po so it gives that leg strenghth then if you have more muscle inone leg you should switch and work your other leg, i know its hard to push with the other foot but it will improve you running. HOPE THAT HELPS

  • To be honest it really doesn't matter. The only way for skateboarding to make you stronger in any way, is to use it as a main transportation. Because when your pushing nonstop for an hour or so, it works your legs, and cardio. I have been skateboarding for almost ten years and can run a mile under 7min. So it helps keep healthy in a way, but still is a fun way to have a workout.

  • Other than a fall, be concerned about a hammy (hamstring).
Normally kids who skate don't warm up or stretch. The only other thing is if you do not switch legs (go goofy foot) every other day, you will build one leg more than the other.

If you are serious about football, do football.
