Will it hurt??

  • for my 18th birthday im wanting to go get a tattoo on the inside of my left wrist. the only fear i have is that its going to hurt really bad. is there anything i can take that will dull the pain?? [fyi i am terrified of needles so its really getting over a fear] im not wanting anything big, just like, a word in cursive in the middle of my wrist. on a scale of 1-10 about how bad do you think it will be? what can i expect?

  • why your wrist?? it shouldnt hurt too bad

  • It's going to be ur first one so....I hate to tell u this but......they always hurt!! But don't let that stop u from doing what u want to do!!

  • It will hurt, but you aren't getting anything big and it was the filling in that hurt for me and you probably won't have that with writing it in cursive. Make sure you see the persons work or someone with a tattoo refers you.

  • it's almost like a bee sting. and dull..... and continuous. i would rate it a 5. happy birthday though. have fun, and stay safe.

  • Tylenol. you won't see the needles like you would from an injection. no pain no gain

  • it doesnt hurt much but you might want to think of another place to get it because the wrist bends so much that you might have to keep getting it touched up

  • Of course its going to hurt. How much? Hard to say. Everyone is different. My pain tolerance is pretty high and I have 2 so far--a tramp stamp that's about 12 inches across and 4 inches top to bottom. It took 2 to 2 1/2 hours and the worst part was the middle of it, right on my back bone. I have a smaller one on my left shoulder blade which took about an hour or so and didn't hurt much at all. I'm not particularly fond of needles either, but if I was so worried about the whole procedure that I had to take pain killers, I myself wouldn't have gotten them done. I'd rate the over-all pain of a tattoo at a 4.

  • I have never had tatoos done on me. I suggest don't get one. As you know,, with age,, they turn blue and become a bad thing. So for a few years it will be nice then it looks bad. But you will do what you will do. I understand some will hurt more than others,,, depending on the person doing it and the person getting it done. It may even swell up and get infected and then you will have a sorts of pain for a week or more. My suggestion,, get a nice braclet and wear it instead, take it off when you are tired of it and well,, you understand what I mean. By the way,, Have a wonderful 18th birthway, wishing you many, many, many more.

  • basically, if you go in there thinking its gonna hurt then it will. but if you go in there, take slow deep breaths and not think about the pain it'll be ok. i was just like you when i was about to get my first tattoo. but the pain isn't as bad as you think its gonna be. now i'm not saying there isn't gonna be any pain at all. it does burn and it'll feel really hot, but thats about it. its basically all mental. just take deep breaths, dont think about the pain to much and you'll do just fine. i have a terrible fear of needles and i have a really low pain tollerance, but i sat there for a little over 2 1/2 hours and came out with a beautiful tattoo that i absolutly LOVE.
good luck, and i'm sure you'll do just fine :)

oh! and PS: DO NOT take tylonol, asprin or any pain releivers. i know you probably think i'm crazy but trust me. they thin out your blood and cause you to bleed more than you would if you didnt take it. plus the pain isn't that bad, and you wont need it. i promise. i thought i was gonna need about 5 advil before i went and got mine, but the pain wasn't that bad. it was only after when i really needed it, cause i was so sore. you'll be ok :)

  • Well, I have 2 and I will be totally honest with you it all depends on where the tat is going and how much skin is there. if its a fattier area it doesnt annoy you as much. and then there are some parts you have to deal with some times . Pain is beauty Thats what I say. but all in all its not as bad as u think believe me.

  • im not sure how much it hurts but it is alot!
im not shure if i heard this or not or where i got it from butt
its bad or dangerous or something to do it over a vein and on ur wrist the one there is close to the skin and stuff
im not sure if this is tru tho
but good ur doing it on ur wrist cuz lots of ppl think its sooo cool and they get a big one al over and then theyre like 80 and u get sick of itt and its weird to see an old perosn with tattoos all over but that one is small

i think there might be other places where itllhurt less but i love the idea!!!!
    GL!
    xoxoxoxo

  • it will hurt A LOT!///////////////
it is a boney area....................get it in a fat area and it hurts a lot less,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • My tattoos hurt. A lot. I don't believe in taking anything for the pain, either. Most medications can not be taken due to thinning the blood and it ruins the experience any way. I like to look back after it's over with and go "wow, I can't believe I accomplished that!"

  • yes it will hurt. of course it will hurt. it depends on the balance in your body, but the pain is very intense directly over tendons and bony areas like the wrist. you're getting a bunch of needles jabbed repeatedly into your skin at high speeds; it feels a lot like millions of bee stings. it burns and spreads and sends weird waves through your body. now, your left might hurt less or more than it would on your right. I have a tattoo on each inner arm-wrist area. My left only hurt directly over the center whereas I was in a great deal of pain constantly for the right. other people will have had different experiences with it. you have to decide if getting some word tattooed on your wrist is worth that pain. if you don't want to deal with the pain, then think of something to do besides getting a tattoo. if you're really set on getting one despite your reservations concerning pain, have the artist run a needle without ink for a second. if you can't take it, say so. you can pop a Tylenol beforehand, I suppose, though I've heard that it isn't the best idea because of the way the body reacts to it or something. I took a vicodin before touching up my right and that helped more than Tylenol ever would, but I knew someone who had some leftover after being in the hospital for MRSA staph infections. even with that, it still hurt....you can feel it over and over again. you have to be capable of handling pain you've decided to put yourself through if you want to get a tattoo.

  • It will pinch and be uncomfortable, but nothing you cant take. Just think about it though

  • for me 0
    for you 9.5
dull the pain=alcohol, vicadin, ganja take your pick

  • Before you go through the pain of getting a tattoo you should get a temporary henna tattoo of what you want on the inside of your wrist so that way you can later decide whether or not you want to get the real thing. Henna tattoos are painted on and stay on for up to two weeks then wear off. They do look real at first till they start fading out in week.

  • Pain is all relative. What is a minor sting to me may be excruciating to you and vice versa.

The pain that goes along with the tattoo is part of the whole experience. I can tell you that each of my four tats hurt in at different stages. But that pain helps me appreciate each one of them and the meaning behind them. A couple ibuprofin before and after is more than enough. Besides, a quality artist will NOT work on someone who is drunk or under the influence.
