Something wrong with my molly?

  • So I noticed white spots on her which I assume was ich. I applied medicine to the entire tank, I am 6 days into the treatment and the ich have fallen off. I still have about 5 more days of treating for ich but I have noticed something new on my Molly.

She has kind of like this shiny spot on the top of her body. The ich medicine seems safe(Rid-Ich) but I was wondering if this is some side effect from the meds or something else that has to do with ich?

She seems to be doing better. Looks less stressed, swimming normal, no flashing, and her gills are moving back to normal. She just has the little shiny spot on her upper body.

    Your thoughts?

  • Just continue with the treatment regimen that you are using. It is possible that you have a bacterial infection that is causing the shiny spot you are talking about. I would watch it very closely for a couple of days and see if it appears to get worse. If it does then I would treat the tank with a broad spectrum antibiotic. It is hard to say what the problem is from the description that you have given, but it's not uncommon for secondary infections to crop up when a fish has been stressed by something like Ich.

  • You are lucky that rid ich worked for you at all. I use aquarium salt to cure ich because it is less invasive and they love salt. Rid Ich can cause some side effects because some fish do not take medicine well. If I were you, do a water change, change you filter and add salt to your water. 1 tsp per gallon for three days. You can leave it in there if there are not inverts. Mollies love salt and it will get rid of the ich problem for good. Hope this helps. I hope whatever it is clears up soon.

  • continue to use the medicine. if you see her being bothered by the spot and it just gets worse with treatment, then stop using the medicine. but, for now, finish the treatment and see how she is then. when you think about it, you are only about half way through the treatment anyway, u know?

  • My black molly gets white patches on the top which are sometimes a bacterial infection and sometimes fungus. For bacteria i used tetracycline gel food or maracyn, for fungus i've used maroxy with good results. But definitely do what the person above said about the salt, just make sure you use aquarium or marine salt, not table salt.

  • Ask her what's wrong with her. She might know!

  • uh...im confused are u talking about a fish or what?
