  • I have a three year old son who has struggled with his language skills. WE have ruled out hearing problems, but now are starting to wonder about CAPD. Question onwhat is out there as curriculum based informationto work with a child with CAPD, can you test a three year old for this. I am a special educationteacher but work more with Emotional Behavioral Disordered students at the MIddle School level. Also, there is a sensory issue with him as well- he always moans/hums while he eats. Just wondering where I could look intothat as well. Thanks Chantel

  • Have you had an team eval. done on the child by the local school?

    Try this

  • I am not sure about CAPD-what does it stand for? But have you considered having him tested for autism spectrum disorder. I have a son with Asperger's Syndorme and he had trouble with language and still receives speech therapy (he's 9). He also sings, hums while doing homework.

  • A contact I used is The Davis Center for CAPD. www.thedaviscenter.com
The contacts are wonderful. It is based on the Tomatis method of hearing and listening. My daughter was diagnosed in 2nd grade. I teach applied physics and my husband teaches Cross-Category Special Ed. Read and search Tomatis and you will gain valuable information.

  • There are info link about Joudry sound therapy converter, is the same as the Tomatis electronic hear in small version. Plugs in any sound source, cd, tapes...

  • I know that he is too young to use a computer yet, but I used a Game called Earobics with a child I tutored. He was 5. It helped him to concentrate and pay attention and it was also fun for him. It also helps toget rid of background noise when talking with him or getting him to concentrate. Sign language and the little picture/symbol cards used by chn with autism help them to plan, stay on track and refer back when lost. Good luck

  • My son was diagnosed with CAPD at age 10, but it was evident much earlier. check out ldonline- a good website w/ many articles on CAPD. He participated in a computer program called FastForword which was very helpful, but strenuous. A specially trained speech therapist cna set up this program- recommened for children 5 and over.
    Good luck

  • this thread seems good .
