Puma underrated ??

  • I noticed that nike and adidas products are more popular among those who play soccer and puma are quite underrated ... people juz favour nike or adidas mainly due to their marketing skillz ... but are their products really better/higher in quality than puma or other brands such as lotto, umbro and diadora ?? i also noticed that nike/adidas products are more expensive than other brands ...
So what do you all think so this ??

  • YES in here nike and adidas products generally cost more than products of other brands ...

you mean in singapore? thats because they dun carry much of the high end range of other brands. Didnt u see the diadora nove goign for 299 at queensway?? thats surpasses all nike prices here. The mizuno morelia waves and rivaldo wave cups are 399 net at queensway! are u ignorant??? the most expensive nike boot would be the vapor or AZTIII. both are 180-220 and within bargain. Why dont u look around abit before afirming about the prices. I'd be most glad to take you around. Even the Pulses are 200 tops! Get your facts right my friend. your basis for comparison is daft! In fact u can bargain with nike and adidas products coz they are so available.

yes twilliger, availabilty is very important, we don't have a single hummel, pony, nomis, etc. even the lottos and diadoras are scarce and new models take forever. general public is market specific(nike, adidas) and playing safe always seems to be shop owners' choice. That is why 3/4 of my boots are bought online

  • A lot of people don't even know that adidas & Puma evolved from the same company. Adi Dassler & his brother Rudi decided to go their separate ways in the late 1940's, with Adi becoming 'adidas' & Rudi starting Puma. Puma is top quality, but you're right, the money behind the marketing is what has made Nike & adidas what they are today.

  • I totally agree!! I rate Puma higher than Nike. If you take a look at Puma's boots for 2006. They are way more innovative than Nike is who basically keeps making the same synthetic boots with different graphics... The Total90IV was just hidious, no matter how marketingmoney Nike spends.

  • at least 1/3 of barca wears pumas??? rem the diadora manyoo boys(keane, neville bros). Italy's elite are/were endorsed by diadora(inzaghi, baggio)even totti switched from nike to them with alot to complain about the former(he even compalined about his socks?).

Breaker have you even seen("NOTICE") the boots on players and thougth through, or did you just ask out of sake or pure ignorance? i cant help but notice the lack of personal discernment here. no offence.

  • oh i think i saw the lotto stadio at queensway going for 120-130(depends on how well u bargain :)). they are quality boots from italy. They would be lotto's answer to copas, brasils, king.

  • breaker, how old are u ?

  • well ok so i guess copas are the way to go since i never hear bad things about them only good things ...i saved for along time to get a brand new pair of boots and i dun wanna go wrong ... well im quite poor and always wore hand-me-downs from my brother so this time im gonna get a real quality one for myself ... puma execs seems too risky and matthew how much do they generally cost down there in queensway ??
    Btw im 16 zhiyi ...

  • my friend got the white ones at peninsula for 140, but i heard they have all 3 colours at the puma boutique at taka goign for 160(thanks to zhiyi). I rem someone here saying there was a hole in his after one game. the fit is great the leather feels extremely soft, but apparently the leather is weak? hmmm id advise against getting them breaker, if you're into leather and looking for something around that price, i'd take the copas or brasils(if they still have sizes). Well let me know if ure getting boots, i always like to help out, coz ive made many mistakes with boots and hate to see people getting sucked into some substandard boot.

  • I dont think puma is underated at all. Sure, Adidas and Nike seem to be the most popular to what people buy, but this is because they spend tons of cash on advertising. Im sure other companys could do this as well, but them compition would become crazy, and more money would be spent from either side.

To me Puma is not underated at all. And its not like one boot is better then another. I belive that pretty much all top end boots will all perform the same. Its about personal preferance really.

    Ken

  • With regards to the talaria and king execs you were comparing, Both are made in china and the talarias are 120 tops, the execs are 140-160 tops. i got the execs from eastbay for over 200 Sing thinking they wouldnt make it to singapore( i was wrong damn). Anyways a firend of mine got them in white and after just the first game, the white layer on his excs peeled off! ive heard alot of similar stories about the execs and though i havent worn mine, i sent them back to east bay in exhange for the brasil elites. couple of friends have the talaria and they're equally as bad... the mateiral sort of split after some wears. Anyway im very skeptical about economical boots. I think the execs were just poorly made, cant compare to the classic king which im sure can outlast almost any shoe. Maybe you should change th thread name to HUMMEL underrated? i know Richard would have a thing or two to say. Puma is obviously not underated lol.

  • quality boots from italy. They would be lotto's answer to copas, brasils, king.

It usually means something to me when I see "made in Italy" or spain or germany on a boot. Is this perception or reality? It is my main beef with knock offs like talarias or air zoom 90 - I don't care that much about whether it is kng 100 or 75, but "Made in Italy", I think that the boot will be better made.

  • wow so puma execs aren't a great boot after all ... so which boot is quality/ value for money and is available at queensway ??

  • well what i was trying to say is that i certainly dun think that the quality of puma lotto diadora are losing out to nike/adidas its juz that people here rather buy talarias than king execs even if they cost the same ... and YES in here nike and adidas products generally cost more than products of other brands ...

if you end up buying them i would recomend them they have the softest leather of any boot i have had, including copas, the white ones stay surprisingly clean, but definatly buy them like a full size smaller, bc they stretch a ton

  • wow so puma execs aren't a great boot after all ...

  • I agree that adidas and nike are no better, and probably little inferior to other top brands you mentioned. It is mostly about advertising and endorsments, but also availability. I live in Ottawa, Canada, and have 3 stores specializing in soccer. On the wall there a 3 models of nike and adidas for every model of puma and umbro - very unlikely to find a stadio, specialis, brazilia - and while priced high according to msr, you can get a top end nike or adidas on sale - not so for puma, lotto or diadora which are always over $200. Then there is ebay which is flooded nike and adidas - so availability is also a big factor in skewing the perception that everyone thinks these companies are the best.

  • well yeah perhaps im ignorant cuz i've only been to queensway a few times ... and the boot availability of nike/adidas is high compared to other brands and i agree totally to what matthew and twillinger said ...
Btw matthew have you seen puma execs around in queensway ?? im looking to get a pair cuz i heard the leather is really good ... and how much do they cost generally ??

  • breaker07, puma isnt underated, nor is diadora, lotto or hummel for that matter. only reason behind nike and adidas' wider recognition, is their marketting effort. NO DISCERNING MEMBER on this board has ever implied that teh otehr brands are of lower quality. again ur comments/question is a lil ambiguous, if u compare a vapor with a hummel squadra, of course the vapor is off better quality, if u compare an Attiva with a talaria, of course the Attivas would be of better quality. i thnk ALL MAJOR BRANDS make quality boots as well as economical boots. are u sure about nike and adidas being more ex? have u seen the hummel pro?attiva plus?lotto vento concept? mizuno morelia waves?puma cells?NOMIS????PONY(over 200US??). They are less popular only coz most pro players are endoresed by nike and adidas(common sense) coz they apparently can afford the higest marketting/endorsement budgets. It would be daft and dim to ever imagine the other brands mentioned to be of lesser quality.

Along the same lines. The soccer stores here only carry Nike, Adidas, Puma and a diadora or 2, and the Umbro x boot line. When I asked why, they told me simply there's no demand for Lottos or Hummels etc. When I asked which boots (brand) sold the least and Puma was the answer. They did tell me that Umbro's X line was doing well also. But they have the xai iv and they don't sell any. People (read:uneducated kids) mainly only want boots that their heros are wearing. With all the money behind Adidas and Nike, that's where most of their money will go. It's up to me to convert the world to Pumas! :D
