Poll (UK) : Do you smoke?

  • I just want to see what the majority turns out to be. I smell a lot of smoke in London, and other parts of the UK I've been to.
    If you do: at what age did you start?
    If you don't: have you ever smoked?

    As a nurse it is terrible to see the effects and damage to peoples organs. I have nursed 15 year old on oxygen with lung cancer coughing up a green/black phlegm and gasping for air with pure terror in their eyes. And more people aged less than 35 are having open heart surgery to do bypasses to clear blocked arteries. Most move around like they are aged in their 90's instead of 30. And my goodness the cost is just ridiculous especially when I see parents buying cigarettes and no fresh fruit or vegetables for their children


  • I started smoking at age 18, stopped at 25, started again at 40 and stopped again permanently age 47. I had major open heart surgery and needed to stop before surgery,so I did. NEVER start again.


  • I gave up 25 years ago and feel much better for it. I never smoked in school,I was an athlete and a footballer. I started at uni, to join in with the crowd, I suppose but realised that my fitness was suffering badly.we were also shown a film of dead somkers' lungs compared with non-smokers...that made my mind up to quit. I tried to give up a few times but failed. Eventually I was determined to and did.Anyone can with a bit of will-power.

    Relatives on my father's side smoke excessively, but I always breathe upwind of them.

    Besides, who would want the permanent smell, the stained teeth, and the yellow fingers?

    And I can categorically say, I would NEVER go out with someone who smoked. I mean, who wants to be kissing a f@g-hag?


  • I used to smoke, did so for years, then one day I decided i was not 'cool' at all and quit, cold turkey. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but now I am so pleased that I persevered. now I never think of smoking myself and find it repulsive and unnecessary in others.
    But I do enjoy a glass of wine, within reason of course
