My dog has really fishy smelling breath. whats the cause and how can i get rid of it?

If you can smell your pet's mouth before you can cuddle up to him/her, then there is clearly a problem! That foul odor is a result of bacterial products involved in periodontal disease and should serve as a wake-up call to any pet owner that something isn't right inside your pet's mouth.

When my dog was younger we used to get these bad breath bone things that were supposed to help his breath when he chewed them, but my dog was never a chewer so I don't know if they worked or not. Might be something to ask the vet about though on your next visit, it could be health related in some way.
