My best friend is depressed and avoiding me, how do I help her?

  • She lives 2 hrs away and I can't really go see her. She suffers from deep depression like once a year. She doesn't really want to talk, and I know she's been in town and never told me but I don't hold that against her. I want to help her but it's hard when she's constantly avoiding me. What do I do?


  • how the hell can she suffer deep depression once a year?is it a ritual or sumthin?for a start,find out what her problem is.see what you can do from there.


  • All you can do is call (leave a message if you must) & send a card to let her know that you are thinking of her. If the two of you have a favorite coffee shop maybe you can write a note inviting her to "coffee and" sometime or lunch when she's free. I would just leave the invitation open and you can follow up with a phone call when you think the time is best.

    If she's avoiding you, it's best for you to let her know you're there whenever she's ready to talk, but until then it's unlikely you'll be able to do much else. Remember that depression changes a person, so it isn't really her that's avoiding you :)

    Stay by her side and let her come to you, to save the risk of pushing her further away
