i have a list of ingredients for a quinine sulphate suspension, i need
to make a solution/syrup 300mg per 5ml and another 600mg per 5ml and
another 150mg/5ml.
ingredients are quinine sulphate, cocoa powder, compound tragacanth
powder, mehtyl and propyl hydroxybenzoates, syrup and vanilla essence.
If you could help me out id appreciate ie
sorry if my question wasnt clear. im making a syrup and it needs to be
of concentration 300 mg quinine sulfate powder per 5 ml with the above
ingredients. i just want to know how much of each excipeient i need to
add mainly to disguise the bitter taste and not to have added too
much. im making up a 150 ml bottle and it needs to have as long a
shelf life as possible. Im not sure whether or not i need a co solvelt
to disolve the quinine sulfate ie alcohol and double strength
chloroform water. also is it recommended to use an artificial
sweetener such as sacharin
The list of ingredients will not help here.
We need some more info that may be on the packet:
If the suspension is ready to use, there should be a dose on the
packet: eg contains 300mg per 5 mL.
Then if this is the case, and you need to take 600mg of quinine
sulphate, you can take 10ml of suspension. ( 300mg x 2 = 600 mg, 5mL x
2 = 10 mL needed)
If it is a powder, it may ask you to add a certain amount of water to
get the concentration required: eg, add 400 ml to get a suspension
containing 300 mg/mL. You can then change the amount of water to add,
or you can make it up as directed and change the ammount to take, as
above.
Sorry I can't help you anymore,
A compounding pharmacist may be able to help.
