  • I am currently pursuing a career in preschool education. I myself have a preschool daughter whom I really monitor on her progress in school. I have observed that some preschool teachers are so keen on following the schedule of the curriculum eventhough some of the children have not really mastered the skills being taught previously which makes me disappointed. CAn you please share your ideas on this one?
Thanks a lot and hoping to meet a lot of friends here. :)

  • In a public setting, many times you have so much material to cover with so little time. Due to this, the slow learners are left behind. We all don't agree with it, but it's a simple fact. The old solution is for parents to take an active
    roll in their child's development.
Not only do we need to focus on our childrens progress and class activities.but not always is that the case, there are many cases recently where the teachers just dont want to take that minute out to adress one child having trouble. One of my four childrens teachers actually quoted to me , I have too many children in my class to stop an help just one. Todays teachers demand more ,yet deliver less. My advice to you is if you feel your child can do the work but is being held back, parents have more power of any school or teacher to stop that, call the board of education and ask them about the details protecting your child under the ( NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND) PROGRAM. trust me ive done it and they do make a difference.

  • After working in the pre-school setting and now in elementary education (kindergarten class). I have found that indeed the teacher must move on. It is ok to move on because some more advanced skills the slower student may catch on to.

The key to assisting children who are considered slow learners is to have the classroom assistants work more closely with the child. It also helps if parents assist with homework and take that extra mile with their child.

I am in a kindergarten classroom now. Most of these same students I worked with at the pre-school stage. One out of four pre-school classrooms had an assistant who really worked with the children, slow and advanced. Her efforts show in the students from her class.

Let's face it most pre-school classrooms have an assistant. Their job is not just to put up bulletin boards, make copies, filing, and cleaning up after meals.
