I'm starting a rock band, I'm lead vocals and guitarist, what kind of guitar should I choose?

  • I'm alternative rock, normal rock, gothic rock, punk rock, emo, heavy metal, and various other types of rock.

    I know I'll use an electric guitar, but how many strings, and what kind of electric guitar?

  • If you're good enough to play guitar in a band you have a guitar already, and if you need to know what kind of guitar to buy you're not good enough to be playing guitar in a band.

  • u shouldnt be lead vocals and guitar, u should only try that if you've playing for quite a few years, which you obviously haven't. I'd start with a 6-string Fender Strat, or an Epiphone Les Paul, both really affordable and great for beginners.

    -choose black for ur emo stuff


  • Get any Ibanez or Jackson guitars and make sure there are no more than 6 strings on that guitar!


  • Choose a guitar that would look good on you and your music...

    It wouldn't look that good if:

    A short/small person uses a guitar that looks too big on him...
    A large guy using a rather small guitar which looks more like a toy...
    Dark-skinned musicians using guitars that matches their skin tone...
    Black metal guitarist using a pink guitar...
    B.B. King or Eric Clapton using B.C. Rich Warlocks...

    6 or 7 strings are fine as long as you get used to it...but don't use a 7-string if you don't really need to use the extra string...you wouldn't really need a 7-string if you're only to play in standard or drop-D tuning...
